SIMBARASHE MABASHA – WABONA

Simbarashe Mabasha is the outgoing Chief Executive Officer of Wabona. Wabona is an online video streaming service delivering African TV Shows, Films and Documentaries via internet and mobile devices. He founded Afrikan Dust Media Group which has been operational since 2011, with the sole purpose of building Wabona. Born in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, Simba obtained a Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of Cape Town and earlier founded The Abantu Group (FMCG & Mineral Trading Business) in 2008.

An accomplished public speaker and publisher, Simba has delivered his ideas at world-renowned events such as Sri Lanka Unites Conference, LTE Africa on Mobile Content, Sentech Connected TV Summit and Africa Com. He was recently invited to the Global Unites Executive Committee. Simba has been deeply in love with TV, Film and media from an early age, greatly attracted to the wonders of the creative arts. “I loved acting and directing at High School but I wanted to be more involved in the media business. So I built two businesses to help build Afrikan Dust Media Group, the parent owner of Wabona. I am motivated by the desire to tell stories, African stories in particular”. Our vision is to build Africa’s largest Video-on-Demand service.

Simba’s advice to young people in business is that entrepreneurship should be approached with a bold attitude. To be successful in business one has to be patient, be a rebel, take risks, trust oneself and work with people who understand your vision.
