BUSINESS: HUNADI BESPOKE COUTURE | SECTOR: FASHION
Born in Queenstown, Eastern Cape, Yolanda is a Management Consultant by training, skilled and experienced in Organisation Design, Performance Management, Project and Change Management. She has over the years made some work/business decisions that have “won” her the label – Entrepreneur. In 2009 she started her own Management Consulting Firm (Rubani Consulting) with a friend and colleague, Mabothokgong Mathole that is still in business today. Through that business she has lived and worked in Nigeria, the SA private and Public Sectors. As if that was not enough, during the craze and excitement of the World Cup hosted in SA in 2010, she opened the doors to a Bespoke clothing business, with the same business partner. This business formed an outlet through which they expressed their passions: Yolanda, her love for Africa (shown by the 90% use of African Print) and Mabo, for her love of self-expression, individualism and affirmation of the “woman”. Hunadi has exhibited in Berlin and New York, with more exciting developments underway.
The Hunadi brand is founded on 3 pillars. To deliver Bold Garments (that capture the essence of the Hunadi woman), Elegant Garments (a translation of african culture through fashion) and Timeless Garments (a hunadi garment is for keeps, the sort that gets passed on to generations). Hunadi is a Sepedi praise name and as many would know praise names are symbols of recognition and acknowledgement of the individual. A fitting clothing brand name. The designs are inspired by the vibrancy of the African print and the buzz of those women in the markets of the African continent from Lagos to Nairobi, Casablanca to Maputo. Yolanda believes that as an entrepreneur you should keep an open mind and go out fearlessly into the world and into your dreams.
