Michelin South Africa’s dream is to reach more youth, more often, with even greater impact.
Since 2018, Michelin and Sparrow FET College have partnered to uplift South African youth through a Tyre Repair and Maintenance programme that combines technical training with personal development. Over 100 learners have graduated, with many finding employment, pursuing further studies, or serving as community role models.
Michelin’s support extends beyond financial backing — the company provides equipment, mentorship, and ongoing engagement through graduations and training sessions. Their commitment also includes promoting road safety education for neurodiverse learners, reflecting a strong focus on inclusion and community care.
To date, Michelin has invested more than R10 million in the initiative. Success stories like that of Rudzani, a graduate turned facilitator, highlight the programme’s transformative impact.
At the 2024/25 graduation ceremony held on 11 July 2025, both organisations celebrated the achievements of the graduates and welcomed the new intake for 2025/26. Looking ahead, they plan to expand the programme to include new trades and digital and entrepreneurial skills — continuing their mission to create meaningful opportunities and hope for South Africa’s youth.
