Gauteng Economic Development, Environment, Agriculture and Rural Development lead a two-day small business empowerment initiative known as the Pitching Booster programme at the Sunnyside Hotel in Parktown in December 2018. An ongoing initiative of the Gauteng Enterprise Propeller, the Pitching Booster is aimed at providing business skills and mentorship to emerging township businesses and aspiring entrepreneurs. The current leg drew entrepreneurs and budding enterprises from various townships in Gauteng’s five regions, including Eldorado Park, Eersterust, Bosmont, Geluksdal, Eden Park and Reiger Park.
The campaign provides an opportunity for existing SMMEs and aspirant entrepreneurs to pitch their innovative ideas and business plans to a panel of judges, which consists of industry experts in their business sector. All the participants receive invaluable training during the two-day bootcamp. The 10 winners each walked away with a prize worth R40 000 in the form of non-financial support from the Gauteng Enterprise Propeller. The Pitching Booster is one among many initiatives of the Gauteng Provincial Government, under Premier David Makhura, aimed at ensuring that marginalised communities participate in the mainstream economy.
