Times Higher Education recently released its world university rankings for 2019, indicating 9 South African universities that made the cut.

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2019 includes more than 1,250 universities which makes it the biggest international league table to date.

It is the only global university performance table to judge research-intensive universities across all of their core missions: teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook. The survey uses 13 carefully calibrated performance indicators to provide the most comprehensive and balanced comparisons, trusted by students, academics, university leaders, industry and governments.

The University of Cape Town took top honours once again moving in rank from 171 to 156. Here is a list of the best universities in South Africa as-well as the top academic institutions in the world.

This year’s list is led by the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge for the second year in a row.
