Primestars Marketing is a company that specializes in facilitating Youth Development programmes for high school learners from underserved communities. The Step up 2 a Start-up IV youth entrepreneurship programme aims to inspire a mindset of entrepreneurship and innovation early on in the career development process of young learners.

The programme is aimed at learners from grades 9 – 11 who become involved in a rigorous 5 month competitive programme that concludes with an awards ceremony. The programme sees funding from commercial sponsors such as Sasol, Standard Bank and MTN. The finalists are awarded prizes valued at over R1.5 million, including business incubation, bursaries and cash.

The top nine entrepreneurial teams who show the most innovative social or environmental business models are selected through the nation wide competition and adjudication process.

The winners of this years Step 2 a Startup competition were two grade 11 students from Pace Secondary School in Soweto who came up with an Education Guide app that allows students to compare universities, sponsorship, tuition, and majors that they can take on one platform, without having to browse through hours of university and bursar Web sites.

This Step up 2 a Start-up initiative empowers youth and tomorrow’s entrepreneurs. Primestars is the biggest private tutor for public education in South Africa with over 750,000 learners since 2005.
